Indonesia Golden Visa 2026: amounts, terms, categories
The Golden Visa (the E28 index family) grants Indonesian residency for 5 or 10 years at once — no sponsor, no annual renewals. A private investor who does not set up a company places USD 350,000 for five years or USD 700,000 for ten; a company founder, USD 2,500,000 and USD 5,000,000. Filing is fully online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, and the money must be placed within 90 days of the ITAS being issued.

What the Golden Visa actually gives you
This is neither a tourist status nor another one-year KITAS. The Golden Visa is a separate branch of Indonesian immigration law for investors, where capital — not a sponsor — is the ground for residency. Hence the package:
- ✓A stay permit for 5 or 10 years straight away, renewable for a further term
- ✓No sponsor at all: no employer, no local guarantor company
- ✓Multiple entries and exits for the whole validity, with the re-entry permit issued alongside the visa
- ✓No minimum physical presence — the status does not lapse if you are away for months
- ✓Spouse and minor children receive linked statuses for the same horizon
- ✓Fully online filing, with no immigration-office visit to collect the ITAS
How much you need to invest
The threshold depends on who you are to Indonesia: a passive investor, a business founder, a corporation, or a participant in the new capital project. The figures below are confirmed by the Directorate General of Immigration's official clarification dated 2 February 2026.
- Indonesian government bonds
- Listed shares and mutual fund units
- Deposit with a state bank (Mandiri, BNI, BRI)
- The most common route for an individual
- Investment into your own Indonesian company
- Several times the passive threshold
- For a smaller business, an investor KITAS makes more sense
- The investor is a legal entity, not a person
- The company nominates executives for the status
- Introduced in January 2026
- Projects in Nusantara, East Kalimantan
- An 80% cut against the standard corporate threshold
The property route
A separate option for the ten-year Golden Visa is buying residential property worth at least USD 1,000,000. There is a catch that rules the route out for many Bali buyers:
- !It means an apartment or condominium unit, not a standalone villa on its own plot of land
- !A foreigner cannot hold land under Hak Milik — the structure runs through Hak Pakai, or through a PT PMA holding an HGB title
- !A long-term leasehold agreement does not count as an investment for Golden Visa purposes
The practical takeaway: if your property budget is under a million dollars, or the object is a villa, it is cheaper and safer to enter via Second Home or an investor status, and to structure the purchase separately.
How it is filed: five steps
It drives both the amount and the document pack: a private investor proves funds, a founder adds the deed of establishment, NIB and NPWP.
The origin of the capital must be traceable. This is the most common sticking point: statements, contracts and proof of asset sales are prepared in advance.
Through the government portal evisa.imigrasi.go.id. There is no interview, and the average turnaround is about four business days once documents are verified.
The declared investment must actually be made and reported no later than 90 days after the ITAS is issued.
The ITAS and the multiple re-entry permit come bundled with the visa — no separate trip to an immigration office.
The 90-day rule and what is at risk
The Golden Visa is granted against a commitment, not after the fact. If the investment is not placed and reported within 90 days of the ITAS being issued, immigration may unilaterally revoke both the stay permit and the re-entry permit. After that the ordinary rules apply: you cannot remain in the country without a valid status, and an overstay costs IDR 1,000,000 per day.
- !Do not file "for later" while the money is not ready to be placed
- !Keep the investment paperwork — it is requested both at reporting and at renewal
- !Pulling the capital out early means losing the ground for residency
Golden Visa, Second Home or investor KITAS
Three statuses solve a similar problem — living in Indonesia long-term without visa chores — but they are built for different budgets.
- ✓Golden Visa — 5–10 years, from USD 350,000, maximum convenience and minimum contact with bureaucracy. For capital already sitting in securities or a deposit
- ✓Second Home — also 5–10 years, but the entry bar is several times lower: proof of funds in an account instead of an investment into the economy. Full breakdown in "Second Home: Bali as your second home"
- ✓Investor KITAS — one or two years, renewable, tied to your PT PMA. The most affordable entry for anyone running a real business in Bali: the full guide

Global Citizen of Indonesia: not the same thing
In February 2026 immigration separately clarified the difference between the Golden Visa and the new Global Citizen of Indonesia (GCI) status. They are different programmes for different people: the Golden Visa is for foreign investors, GCI is for the diaspora. GCI covers former Indonesian citizens and their descendants to the second degree, foreign spouses of citizens, and children of mixed marriages. Its validity is not capped at five or ten years, but self-reporting is required every five years, and the financial bar is milder — around USD 1,500 of monthly income. If your family is tied to Indonesia by blood or marriage, you may not need a Golden Visa budget at all — and a family KITAS is worth comparing too.
FAQ
How much does the Indonesia Golden Visa cost?
The entry threshold for a private investor without setting up a company is USD 350,000 for five years and USD 700,000 for ten. It is not a payment to the state but an investment that stays yours: government bonds, listed shares, mutual funds or a deposit with a state bank. For a company founder the amounts are higher — USD 2,500,000 and USD 5,000,000 respectively.
Can I work on a Golden Visa?
You can run your own company. You cannot take salaried employment with an Indonesian employer on this status — that requires a separate work KITAS with a work permit.
Does my family get the status with me?
Yes, a spouse and minor children are issued linked statuses for the same term. Children over 18 are assessed separately — usually if they are in full-time education.
What happens if the investment is not placed within 90 days?
Immigration may revoke the stay permit and the re-entry permit that were issued. That is why filing only makes sense once the funds are genuinely ready to be placed.
Does the Golden Visa lead to Indonesian citizenship?
No. It is long-term residency, not a citizenship-by-investment programme. Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship for adults, and naturalisation follows the general rules rather than an investment track.
Do I have to live in Indonesia to keep the status?
There is no minimum-stay requirement, so the status is not cancelled by a long absence. The investment itself, however, must be maintained for the whole validity of the visa.
