Indonesian visa for your passport

Entry rules for Indonesia depend not on where you are flying from but on which passport you hold. Some nationalities can arrive with no visa at all, others simply take a visa on arrival, and for a third group it is not issued at all — the visa has to be obtained online in advance.
Below is the picture for ten countries, current as of August 2026, checked against the official registers.

None of these countries appears on the Calling Visa register — the special regime where an application is additionally cleared by the Directorate and the processing time grows. That list holds six countries: Afghanistan, Israel, North Korea, Liberia, Nigeria and Somalia.
What changed, and why the internet is confused
The rules moved twice in two years, and most sites are stuck on an older version.
- ✓29 August 2024. Presidential Regulation 95/2024 revoked the previous visa-free register, which covered 169 countries, and cut it to thirteen. That is when Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Moldova and many others lost visa-free entry.
- ✓9 July 2026. Ministerial Regulation 10/2026 added six countries: Türkiye, Brazil, Peru, Kazakhstan, Macau and Belarus. The register now holds nineteen entries.
Where other sites get it wrong
We checked our data against the official registers and, while we were at it, checked what everyone else publishes. The result is worth knowing before you trust the first article you find.
- !Stale visa-free lists. Several large agencies show fifteen countries instead of nineteen — missing Peru, Kazakhstan, Macau and Belarus. Their pages were updated in January 2026; the regulation landed in July.
- !Errors in visa-on-arrival lists. One widely copied table omits Azerbaijan while adding Panama and San Marino, which appear on no official register at all, and Macau, which belongs to the visa-free list. It also duplicates the Maldives, Malta and Guatemala.
- !Government sites get it wrong too. The Kyrgyz foreign ministry still advertises visa-free entry abolished almost two years ago.
Visa-free or visa on arrival: which to take
Kazakh and Belarusian citizens have a choice — and it is less obvious than it looks.

The logic is simple. Coming for two or three weeks — take visa-free entry, it costs nothing. Thinking of staying longer, or staying for good — take the visa on arrival from the start, because from visa-free entry you cannot switch to any other status at all: only fly out and come back.
What everyone needs, without exception
- ✓A passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry
- ✓A return or onward ticket — asked for at check-in and at the border
- ✓The Arrival Card — filed online at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id no earlier than three days before departure
- ✓The Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 — paid separately on the provincial portal
What comes next if you want to stay
None of these ten nationalities faces restrictions on long-term status. The only difference is where you start from.
- ✓From a visa on arrival you can move to a KITAS, but only through an intermediate Bridging Visa
- ✓From a C1 visa the conversion is direct, with no intermediate step
- ✓From visa-free entry you cannot switch at all — you will have to fly out and come back
- ✓Working for a foreign company — look at the E33G remote worker KITAS: nationality is irrelevant, income from USD 60,000 a year is what counts
Careful: a scam runs around the payment step
Barely anyone writes about this, and everyone filing an application themselves should know it. Since spring 2026 a scheme has been running around electronic visa payments, and it is smarter than ordinary spam.
- !The scammers hold your real application data — your name and reference number. The email reads as a continuation of your correspondence with immigration, because it arrives interleaved with genuine ones.
- !They ask you to "top up" — for the arrival card, for completing the file, for faster processing. The link leads to a third-party site, sometimes to a crypto service asking you to open a wallet.
- !They target people whose payment failed. If the payment on the official portal has stalled, you are already anxious and more willing to trust an email saying "pay here".
Do you need a sponsor?
Another myth people charge money for: that citizens of CIS countries need a local sponsor for an ordinary visa. They do not.
In the immigration application system each country carries a technical flag for "guarantor required". It is set for exactly five states: Bangladesh, Cameroon, Guinea, Iran and Yemen. No CIS country carries it — their citizens file for a C1 and other visit visas on their own.
On Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Moldova specifically: having no visa on arrival is not a ban. All three are present in the online application system and their citizens obtain ordinary visas in the usual way — just in advance, rather than at an airport desk.
Frequently asked questions
Is a police clearance certificate required?
No. In the official immigration requirements for C1, C2, work, investor, family and retirement visas, a police clearance certificate is not mentioned once. Some agencies claim otherwise — that is their own precaution, not a legal requirement.
Why is my card being declined on the immigration portal?
The portal accepts payment through SIMPONI, the Indonesian state payment system, or by Mastercard, Visa and JCB. MIR, UnionPay and American Express are not listed — the issue is card acceptance, not your passport. Worth knowing separately: the portal's payment gateway fails for everyone regardless of nationality. People report money leaving the account while the application never updates, or one card failing where another goes through. Through an agency the fee is settled from the Indonesian side and this step simply disappears.
Can a Kazakh citizen take the visa on arrival instead of entering visa-free?
Legally yes: Kazakhstan and Belarus appear on both official registers. The safer route is to arrange the eVOA online before departure — then the question never arises at the border, and you get 30 days with the right to extend by another 30.
What happens if you fly in without a visa you were not entitled to skip?
The airline will most likely stop you at boarding — it checks entry eligibility and pays a fine for carrying a passenger without documents. If you do land, you are turned around at the border at your own expense. Which is why this is checked before buying the ticket, not after.
How much does overstaying cost?
