How Bali visas work: the short version
Indonesia splits visas into three tiers. The first is short trips: eVOA gives you 30 days plus one 30-day extension. The second is long visits without residency: the C1 tourist visa and C2 business visa stretch to 180 days through extensions, while multiple-entry D1/D2 let you come and go for one to two years. The third is residency: KITAS E33G for people employed by companies abroad, investor and family KITAS, and after several years KITAP, permanent residence.
Three rules that save money: a visa cannot be swapped for another without leaving the country (a few KITAS routes are the exception, and they run through a bridging visa), every extension since June 2025 requires biometrics in person at an immigration office, and overstaying costs IDR 1,000,000 per day per person.
