Company Registration in Indonesia

Indonesia is one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies, and business arrives eagerly. But between the idea and a working company lies a layer of local specifics: KBLI activity codes, foreign-capital restrictions, the OSS and Coretax systems, address and licensing requirements.

We walk you through the whole route: choosing the right structure, preparing incorporation documents, obtaining the tax number and business registration, opening a bank account and arranging a legal address — so you run the project, not the bureaucracy.

Key terms

  • Choosing the optimal structure: PT PMA (foreign capital) or Local PT / PMDN (domestic)
  • Correct business classification (KBLI) — it defines the permitted foreign share and licences
  • Incorporation documents via a notary and Ministry of Law registration
  • The NPWP tax number and NIB business registration via OSS
  • Commercial licences, a bank account and a legal address (including a virtual office where permitted)
Timing and budget depend on the activity and licence set: a basic launch runs two weeks to two months. After a short consultation we’ll send an exact plan and quote.

Required documents

  • Passports/IDs of founders and officers
  • A company name (2–3 options) and an activity description
  • A company address — or we arrange a legal address for you

Frequently asked questions

PT PMA or Local PT — which one?

If even one percent of the company is foreign-owned, it’s a PT PMA. A Local PT is cheaper and faster, but only Indonesian citizens can own it. The choice follows who owns it and what the business does — we’ll map it in a 20-minute consultation.

How long does registration take?

Usually two weeks to two months: timing depends on the activity, licences and how quickly documents arrive. Certain sectors need extra permits.

Is a physical office mandatory?

A legal address is mandatory for any company. In many activities a virtual office is permitted — legal and noticeably cheaper; we’ll arrange it.

What happens after registration?

The company’s reporting life begins: monthly taxes, the quarterly LKPM (for PMA), the annual return. We pick that up with the accounting retainer, and arrange Investor KITAS for PT PMA owners.
