Pre-Investment Visas D12 and C12
Updated: 29 September 2026 · Verified by the Malina Visa team
D12 is the visa for future investors: people sizing up the Indonesian market, choosing a niche, partners and location before committing capital and opening a PT PMA. Among visit visas it offers the longest stays — up to a year in-country per entry with the extension.
The visa is multiple-entry and valid for one or two years, so trips to Indonesia fit around business at home. Processing is online, with a sponsor.
The D12 has a single-entry sibling, the C12. Same purpose, same 180-day stay, but one entry only: leave Indonesia and the visa is gone. The C12 costs less and suits people who come once for a long stay and do not plan to travel out.
Key terms
- Visa validity — 1 or 2 years, unlimited entries
- Each visit — up to 180 days, extendable for another 180
- Purpose — exploring investment opportunities, negotiations, business preparation
- Employment and earning income in Indonesia are not permitted
- Converts to an Investor KITAS once your company is launched
D12 or C12: the difference
Both are pre-investment visas for people researching the Indonesian market, negotiating and preparing to open a company. The difference is the number of entries.
| D12 — multiple entry | C12 — single entry | |
|---|---|---|
| Entries | Unlimited while the visa is valid | One |
| Stay | 180 days on every entry | 180 days |
| If you leave the country | The visa stays valid; each new entry gives another 180 days | The visa is cancelled |
| Visa validity | 1 or 2 years | One trip |
| Turnkey price, Minimal · 10 wd | IDR 7,500,000 (1 year) | IDR 6,800,000 |
| Turnkey price, Regular · 5–6 wd | IDR 9,000,000 (1 year) | IDR 8,300,000 |
| Best for | Flying in and out, combining Indonesia with business at home | Coming once for half a year with no plans to leave |
Not sure? Count your trips: with two or more entries a year the D12 works out better than buying a new C12 each time.

Frequently asked questions
How does D12 differ from C12?
By the number of entries. The D12 is a multiple-entry visa for 1–2 years: every entry gives 180 days, and you can leave and come back as often as you like. The C12 is single entry: 180 days of stay, but the visa is cancelled once you leave Indonesia. The C12 starts at IDR 6,800,000, the D12 at IDR 7,500,000.
How does D12 differ from D1/D2?
Visit length and purpose: D12 gives up to 180 days per entry (versus 60) and is designed specifically for investment preparation. D1/D2 cover tourism and routine business.
Can I open a company on a D12?
Yes — registering a PT PMA, negotiating, leasing, hiring all count as preparation. Employment or earning income inside the country, however, requires a KITAS first.
What happens after the company is set up?
An Investor KITAS is issued on the back of your PT PMA shareholding — the conversion happens without leaving the country. From there, full residence.
Does D12 cover my family?
The visa is personal. At this stage spouses and children usually travel on tourist visas; after your Investor KITAS they switch to dependent (family) KITAS.
Other visas
The D12 is a first step, not a destination
The D12 is rarely needed on its own. It is usually the entry point to a route: come and look around, set up a company, obtain residence.
| Stage | What it gives you | Term | What it takes | Turnkey price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. D12 pre-investment | market research, meetings, negotiations | 180 days per entry, up to 2 years | USD 5,000 statement | from 7,500,000 |
| 2. PT PMA | your own Indonesian company | indefinite | capital and founders | on request |
| 3. E28A investor | owner's residence status | 1–2 years | stake from IDR 10bn | on request |
| 4. KITAP | permanent residence | 5 years | 3 consecutive years on KITAS | on request |
Note: the D12 does not convert into a KITAS directly — it is a visit visa. Moving to residence requires an operating company. That is why the D12 is taken for the reconnaissance stage, not "to live here".
