SKCK in Indonesia: the police certificate

Who can get an SKCK at all
The limit people trip over most often: the certificate is issued only to holders of a KITAS or KITAP. Residency is a hard requirement, not a preference.

The list is short, but every item is formal: the wrong photo background is enough to be turned away.

How the procedure runs
Here is the key difference from what Indonesians do: the POLRI SuperApp is not available to foreigners. Filing is in person and on paper.

For foreigners the SKCK is issued only by national police headquarters in Jakarta. A Bali office cannot close the case — the file goes to the capital.

Validity, and the mistake it causes
An SKCK is valid for six months from issue. That is shorter than it feels, and it produces the most common problem: people get the certificate early «to have it ready», and by the time the KITAP or citizenship file is submitted it has expired.

Where exactly do foreigners file?
At national police headquarters, Mabes Polri in Jakarta. You first obtain a recommendation letter from the POLDA or city police covering your address. The POLRI SuperApp is not available to foreigners.
What does an SKCK cost?
The government fee is IDR 60,000 under PP No. 60 of 2019. The real expense is not the fee but the trip to Jakarta and the time spent collecting recommendations.
How long is it valid?
Six months from the date of issue. If your KITAP or citizenship file takes longer to assemble, the certificate has to be obtained again.
Does an SKCK cover my home country record?
