Children in Bali: visas and paperwork

A child has their own status: their own visa, their own stay permit and their own passport — they cannot be added to a parent's documents. Overstay counts for them exactly as for an adult. The autogate is available from age six. A child born in Indonesia to parents holding a visit permit receives the same permit at the nearest immigration office.

A child is a separate person to immigration

The first thing to understand: your child has their own status. They are not automatically attached to a parent, and they count as an adult in everything to do with deadlines and fines.

Travelling with a child: which visa

For a short trip the setup is the same as for adults, and it is arranged for each person separately.

✓e-VOA — 30 days with one extension, arranged separately for the child
✓C1 — if the trip runs beyond 60 days
✓Visa-free entry — if your nationality qualifies; the same limits apply: 30 days, no extension

The autogate: from what age

The automated gates save the whole family time, but children have an age threshold.

✓Children aged 6 and over may use the autogate subject to the usual requirements — a biometric passport and an approved electronic visa
✓With a child under 6, one parent goes through a staffed counter
✓Every family member's arrival, infants included, must be registered by immigration

If your child is born in Indonesia

There is a specific procedure in the rules: a child born in Indonesia whose father and/or mother held a visit stay permit at the time of birth receives the same permit at the nearest immigration office.

✓A birth statement from the hospital, or a birth certificate
✓The parents' passports
✓The parents' stay permits

Do not delay. A newborn has no default status: until the paperwork is done the child is formally in the country without a permit. Your consulate issues the child's passport, and that is the first step, not the last.

A family staying long term

If the parents live in Indonesia on a residence status, the children are arranged alongside them.

✓The family KITAS — for spouses and children of KITAS or KITAP holders, for the term of the sponsor's document. Children are registered up to and including age 17
✓Family KITAS are issued alongside an E33G and alongside work status
✓Attending school on a family KITAS is allowed; working on it is not
